Gikuru stated that the decision by ANC to work with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) does not mean that Mudavadi was shelving his presidential ambitions.

Amani National Congress (ANC) has dismissed reports that Deputy President William Ruto is Kenya Kwanza Alliance's automatic presidential candidate.

Speaking during an interview on NTV on Thursday, February 10, 2022, ANC Secretary-General Simon Gikuru stated that ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi is keen on succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta as the next Head of State.

Gikuru stated that the decision by ANC to work with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) does not mean that Mudavadi was shelving his presidential ambitions.

“It is not automatic that Deputy President William Ruto will be the presidential candidate of Kenya Kwanza Alliance. We do not have a candidate yet, we are working on the mechanisms because we want to take this home on the first round of the elections. Our position that Musalia Mudavadi will be on the ballot has not changed,” Gakuru said.

In January, a document surfaced online purporting to be a leaked power-sharing agreement between UDA, ANC, and FORD-Kenya.

The document which was dismissed as false claimed that Mudavadi would be a Chief Minister in DP Ruto's government and awarded two ministries including Finance. On the other hand, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula would also be awarded two cabinet slots.

Gakuru dismissed the claims, stating that Kenya Kwanza Alliance had not reached on such an agreement.

“That’s a joke, a big joke, we have not yet sealed any deal. This kind of street talk of Chief Minister, Prime Minister, first and foremost, they are constitutional offices,” he opined.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance has hit the ground running, traversing various parts of the country in a bid to solidify their support across the country ahead of the August general polls.
