A shooting incident in Meru county left a police officer dead and their colleague injured.
The incident happened on Tuesday night.
The tragedy is said to have been caused by the colleagues of the victims after a quarrel ensued between the suspect and one of the victims.
Constable Abel Chumba of Kaongo Kampio General Service Unit camp, who is suspected of committing the act, disappeared after the tragedy.
Chumba is said to have disappeared with a loaded rifle that had 17 bullets.
The suspect is said to have shot constable Pontianas Ikumoli, 22, on the head killing him constantly.
The officer also shot and seriously injured Inspector Michael Ngugi, the officer in charge of the police camp, before going missing.
Police authorities said they had not established the motive behind the 9 pm incident.
Eastern police boss Rono Bunei confirmed the incident and said they are pursuing the suspect who is on the run.
The injured officer was rushed to the hospital where he is being treated. He sustained injuries on the left hand.
Police who visited the scene said they collected 13 spent cartridges.
This is the recent case that puts the police service on the spot over cases of domestic violence.
A majority of the officers have been involved in shooting to kill while others have resorted to taking their lives when depressed.
