Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha woes continue to deepen after being summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over his conduct.
EACC has officially launched a probe after Magoha was recorded insulting a junior education officer.
In a letter to the CS, Magoha is required to write a statement detailing events in a video recording where he called a Uasin Gishu County education official ‘mjinga’ (stupid).
According to EACC, Magoha breached the code of conduct for public officials.
“The Commission pursuant to its constitutional and statutory mandate…is investigating allegations of unethical conduct touching on Cabinet Secretary of Education [Prof George Magoha] regarding an incident that occurred at Langas Primary School, in Eldoret Town, on or about November 6, 2020, during a tour of the school,” EACC stated in the letter.

Following the video, Magoha was criticized over alleged high headedness. The public called on the CS to apologize for his conduct; however, he maintained that that’s how he ensures the education ministry operates optimally.
In reaction to the incident, the Public Service Commission stripped Magoha Human Resources roles. The CS will no longer be in a position to transfer officials from one docket to another.
A defiant Magoha has maintained that only President Uhuru Kenyatta can stop him.
“While I do concede that I am not perfect, in the process of reforms of the magnitude required to improve service delivery in the education sector, I also recognise that this process is bound to generate resistance if tangible results are to be achieved. My management style which has proved successful over the years is walking about at the point of service delivery,” Magoha his defense.
Magoha has not confirmed if he will record a statement with the EACC.
