Malala said Kenya Kwanza Alliance is not an outfit bringing together communities but parties.

Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has fired back at his Kakamega counterpart Cleophas Malala for insisting that the ANC leader must clinch the deputy presidency slot.

Speaking in a campaign trail on Sunday, Kang'ata said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance has reserved the DP slot to Mudavadi.

He appeared to dismiss Malala's remarks saying the deal had already been sealed.

He went on to chide the Azimio la Umoja saying the outfit has betrayed the Mt Kenya region by denying it the DP slot.

He said the entry of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to Azimio now means the region will not get the running mate slot claiming the post has now been given to Kalonzo.

"We better support Kenya Kwanza because we are guaranteed the deputy presidency. On the Other side, the entry of Kalonzo to Azimio means that he will be the running mate. We have been thrown under the bus as the Mt Kenya region in the Azimio team," Kang'ata said.

His remarks came in the wake of Malala's statement saying the deputy president slot should be vetted and given to the most qualified person, who he said is Mudavadi.

Malala said Kenya Kwanza Alliance is not an outfit bringing together communities but parties.

He said if the UDA gets the top seat, then ANC must be given the running mate.

“We want to remind our Kenya Kwanza partners that Kenya Kwanza is a coalition of parties and not a coalition of regions. That is why as ANC party, we are saying that we have our full support behind William Ruto as the Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer, but we are demanding that the slot of deputy president should be handed to the ANC party and that should be Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi,” Malala said.
