Deputy President William Ruto has been endorsed as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate.
The DP was endorsed to fly the party's presidential flag during UDA's National Delegates Convention (NDC) meeting at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.
During the NDC, UDA asked the media for a blackout for one hour in which the party held an indoor meeting that officially endorsed the deputy president's candidature.
Ruto was endorsed after a successful vetting and interview process held last week.
The deputy president was picked as the most preferred candidate ahead of Ms Tracy Wanjiru, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology student, and Mr Japhnel Orina.
DP Ruto will head into the Kenya Kwanza Alliance as the UDA presidential candidate, ahead of negotiations with ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, and FORD-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, for the coalition's top seat.
However, early signs indicate that the second in command will most likely be the coalition's flag bearer, setting up the stage for a fierce running mate battle.
Addressing members of the public recently, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala stated that Mudavadi should be DP Ruto's running mate in the upcoming polls.
The UDA NDC has been graced by several leaders including Chama Cha Kazi leader Moses Kuria, TWP's William Kabogo, TSP's Mwangi Kiunjuri, among others.
