The 7-member team that was tasked with choosing the Azimio One Kenya running mate has issued an update on the process.
In a statement on Wednesday, May 4, the Noah Wekesa-led committee said that parties under Azimio have up to Thursday midnight, May 5 to submit names of nominees they wish to be considered for the position.
Wekesa further stated that they will be meeting every day at the Azimio headquarters in Nairobi till the process is concluded before May 10.
The development comes after Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said that he will not present himself before the committee for vetting as a running mate candidate.
Kalonzo earlier stated that he was the best to deputize Raila Odinga and that a Raila-Kalonzo ticket in the August 9 polls was a sure bet.
Meanwhile, Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday said that subjecting Kalonzo to the Azimio interviews of running mates was a humiliation.
The DP said every leader deserves some dignity and respect in whatever circumstance, and the culture of political deceit needs to be eliminated.
“Though we are competitors, to subject HE Kalonzo to some humiliating 'interview' is impunity. We must unite to eliminate the culture of political deceit, the hallmark of some politicians. Whatever the circumstances every leader deserves some dignity and respect. Heshima si utumwa,” the DP tweeted.
