Tabitha Karanja, Keroche Breweries CEO, has denied being the owner of the Naivasha-based firm.
This was after a voter in Nakuru County filed a petition at the Nakuru Law Court to block her from contesting for the Nakuru senatorial position.
The petitioner, Daniel Mahiri, told the court that Ms. Karanja was unfit to hold a public office following her row with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over unpaid taxes.
“The declaration be and hereby issued that the first respondent (Karanja) is non-compliant with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya and is therefore unfit to hold a public office.

According to documents by the Registrar of Companies that were filed by Mahiri, Karanja owned 95 percent of the firm’s shares.
However, the Nakuru UDA senatorial aspirant denied the allegation saying that she was just an employee of the firm as its director and CEO.
“I am employed by Keroche Breweries limited as a director and chief executive officer of the company but I am not the owner of the company as alleged by the petitioner,” Karanja stated in her affidavit.
She further explained that the relationship between the company and KRA had nothing to do with her as an individual asking the court to dismiss the petition.
The case, which was filed as urgent on Tuesday, May 24, will be heard on June 29.
