Malala said his documents have been certified and given a clean bill of health by the Commission for University Education (CUE)

Kakamega County Senator Cleophas Malala has publicly come out to share his academic credentials, days after doubts arose over his qualifications.

Taking to his Facebook page on Friday evening, the ANC Senator who is seeking to take over as Kakamega County's Next Governor in August, shared copies of his certified KCSE and University certificate.

While attaching a copy of approval, Malala said his documents have been certified and given a clean bill of health by the Commission for University Education (CUE).

He chided those who have been bad-mouthing him concerning his education qualifications, saying they should be ashamed of themselves.

"The Commission for University Education (CUE) has duly certified and recognized my academic credentials and henceforth advised the IEBC to clear me to contest in the August 2022 gubernatorial election, Kakamega county. Those who cherish in propaganda, feel ashamed. Attached are the true copies of my academic accolades," read his tweet

Malala is a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology graduate, having completed his studies and was officially handed over his degree in August 2019.

This came after Malala's education qualifications were put into question by a section of leaders from his rival camp. It had been alleged that Malala's degree was a fake one, reports he strongly declined in April this year.

In an interview with Nyota TV, the vocal politician claims to have commenced his degree in 2006-2007 and graduated in 2010-2011. He also admits to formally collecting the degree from the Nairobi-based Higher Institution of Learning in 2019.

Malala also clarified he was initially admitted to study law at the Moi University in Eldoret but was later transferred to Nairobi by his dad who thought his son was distracted by the ‘very many discos in Eldoret’.

IEBC had been urged to take a keen look at Malala's credentials but the recent confirmation by the CUE seems to have put speculations to rest.

He will be facing off with ODM candidate Ferdinand Barasa in Kakamega's gubernatorial race. Malala already enjoys the support of his Kenya Kwanza coalition after one of its patrons DP William Ruto brokered a deal between him and former Senator Boni Khalwale, who was also eying the seat.
