Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i has intimated an impending dusk to dawn curfew in the troubled areas of Kerio Valley, Turkana County.
In a statement on Friday, June 3, the CS said that the curfew order was awaiting authorization by the National Security Council.
Matinag’i said that the move was aimed at accelerating a security operation in the region that seeks to flush out bandits in the troubled area.
“Pending authorization by the National Security Council a 30-day dusk to dawn curfew will be imposed on troubled areas of Kerio Valley.
“This precedes a sustained disarmament and pacification exercise by a multi-agency team to curb the influx of illegal arms and flush-out criminals,” he stated.

Matang'i further said that the government will reorganize the deployment of security agents in the region.
The Kerio Valley has in the past few days experienced major cases of insecurity, with some locals losing their lives in the hands of bandits while others were left with serious injuries.
The move by Matiang’i comes after he extended the dusk to dawn curfew in Marsabit County to tame the runaway cases of insecurity in the county.
In a gazette notice, Matiang'i said the new curfew would take effect June 1, 2022 and extend for the next 30 days.
"This Order shall apply during the hours of darkness between Six O’clock in the evening and Six O’clock in the morning with effect from 1st June 2022 and shall remain in effect for a period of thirty days," he stated.
