The Kitui Governor will not defend her seat.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu will not defend her seat in the upcoming August general elections.

Speaking at a rally on Wednesday in Kitui County, Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga said that the governor would be offered a position in his administration.

"You will decide between former Governor Julius Malombe and former Senator David Musila who will be your governor. I want to take mama (Ngilu) to Nairobi," Raila stated.

The county boss was facing stiff competition from former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe who is running on a Wiper Party ticket, and former National Assembly Deputy Speaker David Musila who announced his bid on a Jubilee ticket.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has also fielded former Nairobi deputy governor Jonathan Mueke in the Kitui gubernatorial race.

Ngilu will now join Odina's national campaign team to campaign for the former Prime Minister ahead of the August polls.
