"The chairman was in attendance and watched silently as some clusters of staff booed us."

An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission workshop in Mombasa turned into a heckling session of four IEBC commissioners who disputed results announced by the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati on August 9, it has now emerged.

The workshop held last week was to assess the election performance, a postmortem of sort, to enable the commission mark itself wrong or right.

According to IEBC Vice Chair Juliana Cherera, she was booed at the function by a crowd of IEBC staff.

Even so, he said a group of staff also cheered her during the function.

"Yes, I was booed. The other commissioners were booed too. But amidst the booing, some cheered for us."

The IEBC vice-chair faulted Chebukati for watching as they were being heckled and failing to command the crowd against heckling them.

"The chairman was in attendance and watched silently as some clusters of staff booed us and he did not raise a finger to stop them," she added

The revelations comes hot on the heels of plans to remove the four IEBC commissioners over their stand on the August 9, elections.

Three other commissioners including Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya are also said to have been heckled as they gave their speech.

The move by the four to dispute the election results announced by Chebukati has seemingly made them an enemy within with plots being hatched to kick them out of office.
