The incident comes barely a day after a matatu and trailer were involved in a grisly accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
20 people died during the incident and according to police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, the driver of the matatu could have occasioned the accident by failing to comply with traffic rules.
"The preliminary incident report indicates that this tragedy and the senseless loss of lives could have been avoided if the matatu driver had maintained lane discipline," Shioso said.
He urged all road users to maintain discipline while using the road so as to maintain road safety.
"Motorists are not required to overtake in a continuous yellow line according to traffic rules. The service has urged Kenyans to maintain road discipline to avoid such painful consequences” he added.
