Lawyer Gicheru was accused of tampering with witnesses in an ICC case involving President William Ruto and radio presenter Joshua arap Sang.  

International Criminal Court of Justice Suspect Lawyer Paul Gicheru is dead. The Lawyer was Monday, September 26,  night found dead at his Karen Home.

"He had late lunch and felt unwell and went to bed but he did not wake up," police aware of the incident said disclosing further that the cause of his death is yet to be known.

He is said to have eaten a meal and proceeded to sleep only to never wake up again.

His son is also said to have developed complications and was rushed to the hospital.

"His son too collapsed and was taken to Karen hospital in stable condition," police added.

Lawyer Gicheru was facing a witness tampering case at the ICC.

He was accused of playing a role in tampering with witnesses in a case involving President William Ruto and radio presenter Joshua Arap Sang.

Cases against the two were officially terminated in April 2016 after they were found to have no case to answer.

In this case, 17 witnesses who had agreed to testify against the Accused (Ruto and Sang) subsequently withdrew their cooperation with the Court.

Then prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said prosecution witnesses, in this case, were subjected to intimidation, social isolation, and threats to prevent them from testifying.

In the end, the Trial Chamber was in effect prevented from having the opportunity to assess the true merits of the Prosecution case. 

Gicheru surrendered to the ICC on November 2, 2020, pursuant to an arrest warrant issued on March 10, 2015, by Pre-Trial Chamber II of the ICC.
