President William Ruto has announced a new replacement for Former Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai. 

President William Ruto has nominated former Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP). 

In a statement by State House on Tuesday, September 27, Kanze Dena said that koome was the current Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo. 

"His Excellency President William Ruto has nominated Eng Japhet Koome Nchebere to the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) as promised during the Head of State's Address to the Nation this afternoon.

"Mr Koome, a former Nairobi County Police Commander, is the current Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo," part of the statement by State House read.

This comes hours after President Ruto announced that former Inspector general of police Hillary Mutyambai would proceed on terminal leave. 

"I have received communication from the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on his request to proceed on terminal leave because of his health situation. After consultations with Mutyambai, I have accepted that he will proceed on terminal leave," President Ruto announced while unveiling his Cabinet. 

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has also resigned.
