The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced action against 11 petrol stations for selling adulterated fuel.

In a statement dated Monday, December 30, the authority announced that the stations were found non-compliant after tests conducted between October and December 2024.

"During the period of October - December 2024, a total of 5,970 tests were conducted at 1,295 petroleum sites. From the tests, 1,284 (99.15 per cent) of the sites were found to be compliant," read the statement in part.

"However, tests from Eleven, 11 (0.85 per cent) sites turned out to be non-compliant."

The closed petrol stations include Elgon View Filling Station (Adungosi in Busia County) and Salama Filling Station (Mastore in Kiambu County).

Davis Filling Station (Machanga in Embu County), Midtown Filling Station (Kithyoko in Machakos County) and Imperial Service Station ( Akala in Siaya County) remain closed after selling fuel meant for export.

On the other hand, EPRA noted that some stations had been closed and reopened after remedy measures were initiated.

For instance, the Quick Stop Filling Station in Nyeri County was reopened after being fined Ksh100,942. The station was found guilty of selling Diesel with high levels of sulphur.

Daltex Energy Filling Station in Uasin Gishu was fined Ksh137,800 for selling Diesel meant for export and contaminated with domestic Kerosene.

Also fined were the Vipingo Service Station in Kilifi County (Ksh207,837) and the Motorcity Service Station in Mombasa (Ksh100,860).

Meanwhile, in Machakos County, Stanken Filling Station in Kanyonyo was closed after it denied officers from accessing and testing the fuel at the station.

In Nairobi, a fuel truck was impounded after it was established that it was transporting Diesel contaminated with domestic Kerosene.
