Kingdom Bank, a subsidiary of Co-operative Bank, has announced a temporary suspension of banking services as it upgrades its Core Banking System.

Kingdom Bank, a subsidiary of Co-operative Bank of Kenya, has announced a temporary suspension of banking services as it upgrades its Core Banking System.

In a notice on Tuesday, October 6, the bank said the upgrade will take place over three days, affecting customers from Friday, October 9, to Sunday, October 11.

"As part of our commitment to providing a better banking experience, Kingdom Bank will be upgrading its Core Banking System from Friday, 9th October 2026 to Sunday, 11th October 2026," the notice read.

Kingdom Bank said all banking services will be unavailable during the scheduled system upgrade, urging customers to complete important transactions before the interruption begins.

"Customers are advised to complete any urgent transactions before this period," the notice added.

According to the bank, the temporary suspension will begin at 3:30pm on Friday and continue until 12:00pm on Sunday.

The bank also announced changes to its branch operating hours during the upgrade period; all Kingdom Bank branches will close early at 1:00pm on Friday.

Branches will then remain closed over the weekend and reopen at 8:00am on Monday, October 12.

Kingdom Bank said its cards and digital banking services will resume from 12:00pm on Sunday allowing customers to access the services once the system upgrade is completed.

"We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding as we enhance our banking services," the notice further read.

Kingdom Bank also reminded customers to remain vigilant and protect their confidential banking information during the period.

"Kingdom Bank will never ask for your PIN, password, OTP, card number, or any confidential banking information via phone call, SMS, or email. Keep your banking details secure and do not share them with anyone," the notice concluded.

Elsewhere, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has approved the appointment of Abdi Mohamed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of I&M Bank. 

In a statement on Monday October 5, I&M Bank announced that Mohamed will formally assume the role following the approval. 

"We are delighted to welcome Abdi Mohamed as our new Chief Executive Officer, following regulatory approval by the Central Bank of Kenya," read the statement in part. 

Mohamed joins I&M Bank with more than 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, having worked across Kenya and other African markets.

I&M expressed confidence that the new CEO will accelerate the bank’s growth while prioritizing customers and employees and strengthening its Pamoja culture.

"His leadership will focus on accelerating our growth, putting our people and customers first, and strengthening our Pamoja culture, while delivering sustainable value to our shareholders, communities and the wider economy," the bank stated.

The I&M bank board had appointed Mohamed as CEO on June 29 subject to approval by the CBK. 

He joined the lender after leaving Absa Bank Kenya, where he served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Before taking over the top role at Absa Bank Kenya, Mohamed served as Managing Director and CEO of Absa Bank Tanzania.
