Carrefour Opens New Store in Nairobi CBD

Carrefour on Wednesday, November 9, announced the opening of a new store at Comet House in a bid to tap into customers in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) area.

Located along Monrovia Street, the new store promises convenience for customers looking to quickly make a purchase from its wide array of categories including consumer goods, cleaning and household products, personal hygiene products, and fresh food including fruits and vegetables.

Franck Moreau, Regional Director — East Africa, Majid Al Futtaim, commented: “Ensuring convenience for our customers is very important to us. The new store allows us to move closer and serve customers that previously could not access our products while at work or in the CBD.”

While it is the smallest of Carrefour stores in the country, it holds over 9,000 single unique items and is expected to have considerable foot traffic.

With the new addition, Carrefour now operates 19 stores countrywide with 15 located in Nairobi while Kisumu and Mombasa host two stores each.

The stores are strategically located in various malls in the three cities including the Hub, the Village Market, Galleria Shopping Mall, the Sarit Centre, the Junction Mall, Thika Road Mall, Two Rivers Mall, Southfields Mall, Valley Arcade and Kilimani in Nairobi, United Mall and Mega Plaza in Kisumu and City Mall and Center Point Mall in Nyali and Diani respectively.

Moreau added: “Kenya remains a key market in our expansion strategy, with many opportunities to grow our network across the country through physical stores and e-commerce offering. Our goal is to ensure that every Kenyan has access to the widest range of quality products at the best price.”

Currently, the retail chain is running a savings campaign dubbed ‘Carrefour Friday’ with up to 50 per cent discount every single day throughout the month on a wide variety of products including electronics, cleaning and household products, clothing, outdoor, and more.

Customers can access the Carrefour Friday savings in stores or online via the Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour app and earn points at same time.
