It was all pomp, colour and motivation as pre-elite marathoner Amos Rono hosted the 3rd edition of the Cocktail Runs with Rono in Nairobi on Saturday, November 2.  

The event, held at the Baraza Media Lab, brought together sports and fitness enthusiasts for a three-hour engagement on running, exercising, and physical health. 

Led by Rono, notable individuals from various industries in the country shared their experiences of how they ignited their passion for running and ended up at various marathon events across the globe.

The three guest speakers at the cocktail event were Journalist Joseph Bonyo, Lawyer Edward Oonge, and Wellness Curator Lorna Nyatome.

Takeaways from the speakers

Joseph Bonyo

In his presentation, the journalist shared his experience of getting into outdoor physical fitness and balancing between the demands of the newsroom and exercising.

Key to his success was moral support from his wife, time management, and prioritizing his morning for fitness exercises.

"I can say that I have lost some weight and I have to say that it makes me proud," the Managing Editor of Ramogi TV shared. 

Edward Oonge

The lawyer detailed how running had become part of his daily routine. According to Oonge, running should be fun. Therefore, he encouraged participants to train regularly as it makes things better and helps with the injuries.

Among the marathons he has participated in include the Chicago Marathon which he completed in 2 hrs and 58 minutes.

Lorna Nyatome

On her part, the wellness curator advised that fitness should not be about weight loss but centred around changing habits.

She also detailed her journey of participating in marathons in Kenya and across the globe. As a curator, she shared her journey of drafting monthly fitness challenges that have attracted participants from the international community.

Amos Rono

The content strategist revealed that he had done a survey on fitness with the results expected to be released to the public in the coming months. 

The hosts explained that the survey would help highlight the fitness habits among Kenyans, a move that can help improve the performance of those with an interest in running.

Meet and Greet 

Following the end of the presentations, participants also got to engage with the guest speakers through a question-and-answer session.

At the event of the event, the attendees also networked among themselves given the vast presence of companies and industry experience in the room.
