High Court Advocate Elisha Ongoya has been the subject of discussion online and in the traditional media following his submissions at the Senate and the High Court regarding the impeachment of his client, Rigathi Gachagua, from the position of deputy president. 

While appearing at the Senate, Ongoya thoroughly cross-examined Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who had moved the motion to impeach Gachagua.

But who is Ongoya? Here is a brief profile on his education, career and some of the landmark cases he's taken part in:

Ongoya Education and Early Life

Ongoya hails from Kakamega County and attended St. Paul's Ikahlika Primary School and Musingu High School. The advocate is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Law.

He's also a graduate of Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI) in Israel, where he studied Management of Higher Learning.

Not much is known of Ongoya's private life, as he rarely appears in public, save for court appearances or TV interviews.

Ongoya Legal Career

After attaining his university education, Ongoya enrolled at the Kenya School of Law, culminating in his admission as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

He co-founded Ongoya and Wambola Advocates. Over the years, he has used his firm to practice law. He's currently a partner at the firm.

In addition to actively practicing law, Ongoya is also a legal scholar. He serves as a Senior Lecturer at Kabarak University School of Law under the Department of Private Law. He has also appeared as a guest lecturer at other universities, such as Strathmore.

Ongoya Top Cases 

While many Kenyans know Ongoya due to his recent submissions on the impeachment hearing of Rigathi Gachagua at the Senate, Ongoya is a renowned lawyer who has participated in several high-profile cases.

He has previously represented Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza in two impeachment motions and won both.

Ongoya was also part of the legal team that successfully argued against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill, which had the backing of former president Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition Chief Raila Odinga.
