Over the past weekend, Kenya’s top music group Sauti Sol cancelled their much-awaited 'Sol Saturday' concert that was scheduled to happen on Saturday 19, December 2020 at Waterfront Karen.
According to the group, the decision to cancel the concert was informed by Covid-19 guidelines put in place by the government following the recent surge in infections across the country.
“We were recently made aware that the event size doesn’t comply with Kenyan covid-19 protocols and regulations. Together with the promoters Tukutane entertainment limited and Masshouse group limited, we tried hard to mitigate the situation, however we could not come to an agreement on the best way forward," part of their statement read.
However, according to one of the service providers; Vendor Kari of Kari’s Kitchen, who was hired to provide catering services for the event’s VIP section, the concert was not cancelled due to the Covid-19 guidelines.

Vendor Kari alleged that the group refused to perform on Friday night, the eve of the show, arguing that the stage was not up to standards.
According to Kari, the organizers of the event had already paid Sauti Sol USD 30,000 (Ksh3 million) to perform at the event.
She accused the group of being inconsiderate particularly to vendors who lost huge amounts of money.
Kari noted that she had bought lots of perishable supplies that may now go to waste due to the group’s decision not to perform at the event.
Reacting to the revelation, a section of netizens accused Sauti Sol of being inconsiderate and feeling entitled.
