Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Monday, September 4 received a Sh 7.2 billion cheque from President William Ruto for the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA)
In a statement via Twitter Waiguru said she was honoured to receive the money on behalf of counties which will be used in financing climate action activities.
“I was honoured to receive the cheque of Ksh 7.387B on behalf of county governments from President William Ruto. We thank our development partners, National Treasury and Ministry of Environment for the partnership in this program,” she stated.
Waiguru noted that FLLoCA embodies the Kenya Kwanza government’s bottom-up economic model by taking climate action activities to the county level.
She also mentioned that county governments have pledged to contribute three billion shillings to the climate action plans.

"Counties have committed Kshs 3B of their own resources and conducted ward-level consultations to develop Action Plans. These culminated into the National Climate Change Action Plan 2023-2028," Waiguru added.
The FLLoCA program aims to contribute to a low-carbon development pathway and enhanced climate change resilience.
President Ruto on Monday pledged to disburse the money which will be in the form of county climate change Investment grants.
“I will today issue Sh7.2 billion approximately $50 million to counties in the form of County Climate Change Investment grants which together with Sh3 billion of the county's own resource allocation, will finance local climate action priorities in agriculture, water and national resource management in every county cascaded to every ward,” Ruto announced.
The President however warned governors against misappropriating the funds adding that they will be dealt with ruthlessly.
“The government remains fully committed to ensuring funds mobilized under this and other programs are fully utilized for the intended purposes and the intended manner and that we shall remain vigilant and ruthless against any malpractice, mnajua mambo ni matatu,” he added.
