The Kenya Met Department has warned of heavy rainfall in several parts of the country in the next seven days.

In an update on Monday, May 20, the weather disclosed that heavy rainfall will continue in Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Northwestern, and Rift Valley.

The Met Department further intimated that the Coast and North-eastern regions may experience occasional rainfall, adding that there was a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in the regions.

"Rainfall to continue over Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Northwestern, and Rift Valley. Coast and North-eastern regions may see occasional rainfall. Isolated heavy rainfall possible. 

"Daytime temperatures above 30°C expected in most parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya. Night-time temperatures may drop below 10°C in some parts of the Central Highlands. Stay prepared and safe!" read part of the forecast.

Additionally, the weatherman warned Kenyans in the Coast region to brace themselves for strong south-easterly winds due to the tropical storm IALY.

The Met Department advised that small boats and crafts should avoid deep-sea areas.

"As a result of tropical storm IALY, expect south-easterly winds at 10-30 knots over Kenya waters. Wave heights will range from 1.5 to 3.6m. Moderate to strong sea conditions. Small boats and crafts should avoid deep-sea areas," the Met Department said.
