Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro on Friday, May 24 banned the entry, transportation, distribution, sale, and use of muguka in the County.
In a statement, Munga'ro said he had banned muguka in Kilifi by executive order number 1 of 2024 and in the exercise of the powers vested in him by section 30(2)(1) of the County Government Act and all other enabling laws of Kenya.
“I, Gideon Maitha Mung'aro, Governor of Kilifi County, hereby order and direct that there be a total prohibition on the entry, transportation, distribution, sale, and use of muguka and its products within Kilifi County,” read the statement in part.
Governor Mung’aro directed all outlets selling or distributing Muguka within Kilifi County to be closed immediately or stop the sale of Muguka and its products.
He also ordered vehicles transporting Muguka not to be allowed entry into Kilifi County.

“In light of the above order, I therefore, with immediate effect, issue a directive to all the Kilifi County enforcement officers through the Directorate of Enforcement to ensure the order is enforced in totality,” Mung’aro added.
The Kilifi governor warned that any officer found colluding with the perpetrators would face the law and disciplinary action.
This comes a day after Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir banned the sale and use of muguka and its products in Mombasa county.
The Mombasa Governor also ordered vehicles carrying the products not to be allowed entry into the county and that all outlets whether retail or wholesale selling or distributing the products be closed immediately.
