A middle-aged man who was caught on camera assaulting a traffic police officer on Sunday, June 2, has been arrested.
In photos and videos seen by Nairobi Leo, the suspect, Ian Njoroge, was apprehended by plain-clothed police officers who went on to interrogate him.
According to a police report filed at Kasarani police station, the incident happened on Sunday along Kamiti Road at Mirema Junction, where the traffic officer was controlling traffic.
"The officer was on duty along Kamiti Road at Mirema Junction controlling traffic, the officer spotted a motor vehicle which was making a U-turn on the road causing obstruction to other road users," part of the police report stated.
The officer then approached the vehicle and managed to get to the front passenger seat before ordering the motorist to drive to the police station.

However, Njoroge reportedly stopped the vehicle moments later and turned violent before descending on the officer with blows and kicks.
"On reaching opposite Quick Mart, the driver suddenly stopped and drew a sword from under the seat. The officer jumped out of the vehicle for his own safety, and the driver followed him with blows and kicks. He fell into the trench, and in the process, the driver took his police pocket phone battery and left with it," the police report further read.
The officer was rescued by members of the public and Njoroge was captured on camera driving off the scene after the incident.
Efforts to track the vehicle were launched by the police while the assaulted officer was referred to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment.
The police report at Kasarani Police Station indicated that an accomplice, Peter Kiragu, had been apprehended and was aiding in investigations.
The incident attracted mixed reactions on social media, with many netizens condemning it.
