However, he had lost both his arms, which were wrapped in bandages.
On Wednesday, June 19, CS Mutua pledged to give Sh1 million to the police officer, adding that he will contribute the money together with Governor Ole Ntuntu.
"My friend, Governor Ole Ntuntu, and I are contributing one million to help the young man whose life has been ruined, so it can at least cushion him. I hope others will contribute a little to change his life,” said Mutua in Narok County.
Chief Inspector Maina was injured on Tuesday at the Nairobi CBD after a tear canister he had detonated to disperse protestors exploded in his hands before he could disperse it.
Meanwhile, Mutua cautioned Kenyans against demonstrations, which he said were 'driven by mere activism and propaganda.'
"While affirming the right of Kenyans to protest, I caution against demonstrations driven by mere activism and propaganda," he remarked.
