The 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, France.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has directed the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK), to finalize the full list of the Kenyan delegation that will travel to Paris, France for the 2024 Olympics.

In a statement on Thursday, July 11, CS Namwamba said NOCK should detail the specific roles of each member of the delegation.

The Sports CS said the delegation should be kept at the barest minimum with priority on athletes, coaches, and medical personnel.

He noted that the team should be made public for transparency and accountability.

“As discussed and resolved by the PMC, the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK), being the custodian and responsible body for the games, should expedite finalisation of the Team Kenya delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympics comprised of athletes, officials, and medics, detailing the specific role of each member of the delegation,” read the statement in part.

CS Namwamba also ordered the committee to prepare the full budget that will be incurred by the Kenyan delegation during the Paris Olympics.

He pointed out that the budget should be in line with the austerity measures the Sports Ministry is implementing to cut expenses.

“The final budget to reflect the actual number of qualified athletes, revised scale of allowances and rewards for athletes (Revised 2023), and the austerity measures the Ministry is implementing across all expenditure centers,” he stated.

Further, the Sports CS directed NOCK to prepare a detailed report on the process, status, and cost of the ceremonial, training, and competition kit for Team Kenya procured by NOCK.

CS Namwamba mentioned that the final budget will be presented at the next PMC meeting.

This comes after Kenyans piled pressure on the Sports CS to make public the list of non-athletes accompanying the Kenya team to France.
