At least 10 people have lost their lives and several others injured after a bus collided with a trailer along the Garissa-Mwingi road on Thursday evening, July 11.
Reliable reports indicate that the bus attempted to overtake a vehicle before hitting the trailer, which was stuck on the road.
The bus was carrying 50 passengers. The injured passengers were rushed to various medical facilities in the area.
Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, who confirmed the number of fatalities, passed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
"I am saddened to learn of an accident involving Makkah bus last night in Mwingi in which 10 people died. I send my condolences to the families of our brothers and sisters who have left us and the entire people of Mandera," Khalif stated.

He added, "I pray to Allah (SWT) to forgive their sins and admit them to Janatul Firdous, Ameen. I also pray to Allah to give the families of our brothers and sisters the strength to cope with their loss."
The incident comes after nine people were killed and scores others injured on Saturday evening, June 29, after a matatu was involved in a road accident at Ratili area along the Narok-Bomet highway.
According to reports, the driver of the matatu lost control of the vehicle after one of its tyres burst before it rolled several times, killing nine people on the spot.
