Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has warned those plotting to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of consequences from the Mt Kenya region when the time comes.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 30, the Nyeri Governor dared the lawmakers to bring on the impeachment terming the accusations 'frivolous.'
"We have heard and we have seen there are efforts to bring an impeachment motion against the Deputy President because he opposed the Finance Bill during a Cabinet meeting. We should clap for that man because the Finance Bill was ultimately rejected by Kenyans,” remarked Kahiga.
He said that the Deputy President had a connection to the ground as opposed to legislators who are now representing an 'individual' as opposed to the people who elected them.
"We must say that if there is an impeachment being considered against the Deputy President, that is an affront towards the mountain and it is an attack on us as people, and we will not take it lightly. It has consequences, whoever feels that is the way to go, we kindly tell them, to bring it on," Kahiga stated.

It emerged on Tuesday morning that there were members of parliament drafting a motion to impeach the deputy president.
Among the reasons given is that he has undermined his boss President William Ruto and failed to be a unifying factor for the country.
At the same time, Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba on Tuesday said that the impeachment plot against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is a decoy orchestrated by the Government.
“Someone thinks bringing a tribal card against The DP and leaders of Mt Kenya will diffuse the rot in the Kenya Kwanza Government as highlighted by the protestors.
“Presenting an impeachment agenda against the DP Rigathi Gachagua is a decoy to shift the attention from allegations of massive corruption and open inefficiency on various issues flagged by Kenyans,” Wamumchomba stated.
