In a fresh twist of events, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says former President Uhuru Kenyatta did a lot for the country.
In a joint interview on Sunday, August 4, Gachagu said the current administration cannot continue blaming Kenyatta for the economy yet they've been in power for two years.
"Let President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family be respected. I have decided that I will be his defender moving forward. He did a lot for this country and even after we shamed him, he came to Kasarani and handed over power in broad daylight. We had been saying he ruined the economy but we have been in power for two years now, let us tell Kenyans something different, look at the mess we have in Nairobi yet Uhuru left it in a very good state under NMS," said Gachagua.
Interestingly, in the run-up to the 2022 general election, Gachagua was among the brigade in the UDA party that led the attacks against Kenyatta.
“Pack your belongings and go so that the state lodge can be occupied by Deputy President William Ruto after August 9,” Gachagua said in July 2022.

He would continue his attacks against the former President during the swearing-in ceremony at Kasarani stadium after they clinched the Presidency.
"The truth of the matter is that we have inherited a dilapidated economy that is almost facing an economic shutdown, we have 10 billion public debt, six million Kenyans," he said in September 2022.
The Deputy President now seems to have changed his tune completely and is now defending the former President amid impeachment reports.
"I have heard the rumours of my impeachment. I am not worried, I don't take it seriously. I heard they delayed because they didn't have the numbers but now Raila will give them numbers, I will wait and see," Gachagua stated.
