A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate from St. Joseph Mukulusu Secondary School in Kakamega County has died.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, November 9, the father of the deceased stated that the candidate, Eugene Makale, complained of persistent pains in his throat while he sat for the national examinations.
The distraught father disclosed that his son had difficulties swallowing and a severe fever on Friday evening, November 8.
The young man sadly passed away while he was being taken to the hospital for treatment.
"On Friday, I noticed he had been overwhelmed as he complained of pain in his throat. It was difficult for him to swallow anything and he had a severe fever. We tried to give him some medicine we bought and then took him to hospital but he died on the way," the father explained.

This is the third KCSE candidate to die in the span of one week since the national examinations kicked off.
Last Tuesday, a 19-year-old KCSE candidate from Ebubere Secondary School in Mumias East Constituency, Kakamega County, died during the examinations.
Calistus Wamboye Oteu died in the classroom while waiting to sit for the papers of the day.
In a similar incident, a KCSE student in Tigania West Constituency, Meru County, passed away hours before sitting for the examinations.
Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma confirmed that the male candidate died on Sunday night, November 3.
