Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja had attributed the lack of dustbins and streetlights in the CBD and various estates to vandalism.
Speaking during the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Open Day on Friday, November 29, Sakaja lamented that some individuals in the black market had made it a habit to steal the items days after installation.
He cited the instance of Ngong Road where some cables have been stolen from the streetlights.
"You put bins today, tomorrow they have gone. We have put streetlights across the city and within a week, they are gone," he expressed.

"For instance, we lit the whole of Ngone Road, from Junction to Karen and every so often you see five lights are not working. It is not because of power bills. It is because someone has stolen the cables and lamps to sell in the black market."
Consequently, to address the challenges, the county boss announced that his administration would undertake an anti-vandalism campaign.
Through the campaign, the county seeks to raise awareness among city residents over the destruction of various facilities such as dustbins.
In the meantime, Sakaja indicated that plans were underway to repair major roads in the city during the festive season.
Various works are set to begin once the long rains subside.
Notably, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has already announced a Ksh75 million tender for the repair of Jogoo Road.
