Deputy President William Ruto has addressed the looming
reshuffle at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stating
that he is not worried about who will become the new head of the polls body.
Addressing a gathering after attending a church service at
the Kiritiri Catholic Church, Mbeere South, Embu County the DP noted that
elections are decided by voters and not election officials, therefore he is not
worried by who heads the electoral body.
According to the DP, even if the relevant agencies mandated with the appointment of IEBC bosses settle on Oburu Odinga; brother to ODM leader Raila Odinga, he still won’t be worried.
“Many people are struggling, yet they want to conduct an
IEBC reshuffle. They want to appoint new commissioners at IEBC. I have no
problem with IEBC. I know that elections are determined by the people at
polling stations.

"I've heard people say that Ruto has been outsmarted in the IEBC issues, even if they want to put Oburu Odinga to be the IEBC chairman, I will have no problem with that, I am confident because it’s only Kenyans who will decide who will become President. I am only asking them to assure us that they will accept the results without any chaos," he said.
Parliament Passes IEBC Amendment Bill 2019
Meanwhile, Parliament recently passed the IEBC
(Amendment)(No 3) Bill 2019, which gives the Parliamentary Service Commission four
positions in the seven-member committee that appoints electoral commissioners.
Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta enjoy massive support in Parliament and is seen to be the main beneficiaries of the amendment.
