Deputy President William Ruto has insisted that the economy must be at the center of the political discussion if we are to salvage the present and liberate the future of Kenya.

In a series of tweets, DP Ruto said even the leaders opposed to the bottom-up economic model must debate it, because it is focused on the struggling in society.

"For those stuck in politics of ethnicity, positions, power and law changes, the must have debate on the economy especially the bottom up model, focused on the jobless, struggling hustler enterprises & those who can't put food on the table is posing a major challenge, understandably"

"We've the option of making peace with the mediocrity of leaders-centred, position/power sharing politics & the failed trickle down economics OR up our game to the people-centred & bottom up model that deliberately focuses on labour intensive infrastructure/manufacture investments," said the Deputy President.

Ruto went on to say that bottom-up is focused on creating jobs and liberating hustler businesses from credit exploitation and empowering them with resources.

"Bottom up is focused on deliberately creating Jobs, liberating hustler enterprises from shylock-credit exploitation & unfair regulation and empowering our resource-poor farmers/herders to produce so as to FREE them from the slavery/indignity of relief food aid.

Difficult as it is, the economy conversation is a must have if we have to salvage our PRESENT and liberate our FUTURE. Welcome to the new bottom up conversation that will burry tribalism, patronage, cronyism and corruption. Truly the conversation HAS changed for good," added DP Ruto.

His statement comes a day after he announced that he had cancelled his political engagements over the rising cases of covid-19 in the country.

"The covid 19 situation in the country has escalated as stated by GoK this afternoon. My scheduled public engagements are hereby postponed until further notice. We all should take individual responsibility and adhere to guidelines issued so as to control this ravaging pandemic," DP Ruto tweeted.
