West Pokot Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo has banned idling in towns within the county.
Speaking in Makutano town, the county boss noted that most locals have a tendency to leave home early then spend time idling in towns.
Lonyangapuo argued that the county is loosing a lot economically because the residents in question are focused on things that are not of commercial value.
"Idleness is going to be our immediate enemy in the coming times. People just spend their days chewing gum and eating maize around," the governor said.
The governor advised residents to redirect that time on doing things of value instead of sitting in town gossiping the whole day, adding that it will soon be an offense to idle in town.

"You find upright and idle people rotating here the whole day but they cannot point a finger at what they did of value," Lonyangapuo added.
In 2021, Lonyangapuo made headlines following a three-week absence from the County raising concerns about his whereabouts.
West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio called on the family to give a status of his whereabouts adding that being the County Chief, his constituents should be aware of why he is absent from duties.
“The family should communicate. This is a public figure and the county has closed down,” Poghisio said.
However, the governor surfaced days later after sharing pictures in the company of Deputy President William Ruto.
