State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena has thrown her weight behind Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua ahead of the August general election.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 7, in Mombasa during a meeting with Maendeleo ya Wanawake Movement, Kanze endorsed the Raila-Karua ticket.
According to State House spokesperson, women had been looked down upon but they were now leading as Karua had been nominated to be Raila’s deputy.
“Wametuzoea kwa magredi ya kupigana na pilau jikoni. Lakini sasa tumeongezea magurudumu ya maendeleo tuko mbele,” Kanze told the women in Mombasa.

Karua, who is a member of the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Movement, attended the meeting in Mombasa which brought together women in the Coast region.
It was the first time the State House spokesperson publicly declared her political affiliations ahead of the August polls.
President Uhuru Kenyatta in February, while addressing a section of delegates in Mt. Kenya, publicly endorsed Raila for the presidency.
Government officials have been barred from engaging in active politics but in the recent past, CSs and other state officials have publicly drummed up support for the Azimio presidential candidate.
Some of the powerful CSs have publicly endorsed Raila’s candidature include Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, ICT CS Joe Mucheru among others.
