The Kenya medical fraternity is mourning the death of their colleague Dr Stephen Mogusu who has succumbed to Covid-19 related complications.

Dr Mogusu succumbed to the deadly disease on Monday evening while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Prior to his death, Dr Mogusu penned down a heartbreaking message urging his colleagues to vacate the medical institutions as the government does not care about them.

“…Bail out when you can because the mistreatment by government is not worth your life,” he said as quoted by Dr Mercy Korir.


Reports indicate that by the time of his death, Dr Mogusu had not received 5 months’ salary.

“Devastating to announce the demise of 28 year old Dr. Stephen Mogusu who has succumbed to COVID-19 complications. At the time of his death he had not received his salary for 5 months, had no insurance and his young family left with no compensation. Too steep a price for patriotism,” KMPDU tweeted.

Deputy President William Ruto has mourned the deceased terming him a ‘brilliant and selfless medic’.

“We are saddened by the loss of Dr Stephen Mogusu, a brilliant and selfless medic who was dedicated to deliver critical care and support to our country during this COVID-19 crisis.

“His death, and that of other healthcare workers, is a demonstration that we must deploy all our energies and resources to protect and save our heroes at the frontline from this pandemic at this particular time. Kenyans too must be protected from this ravage,” Ruto said in part.
