Wiper Party leader has castigated President William Ruto over a petition to remove IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and three other commissioners from office.
Speaking on Saturday, September 17, during an Azimio meeting, Kalonzo said that move to oust Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya was a political witch hunt.
The former Vice President said that Azimio heavily condemned the act adding that they will do everything to ensure that the rights of the four commissioners are protected.
"We totally condemn this brazen act of witch-hunt and demand that the President and his agents, leave those officers alone. On our part, we commit to do whatever it takes to protect those officers from any attempts to infringe their basic rights," Kalonzo said.

The remarks by the Wiper boss come after the Farmers Party, an affiliate party of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, petitioned for the removal of the four commissioners.
In a statement on Friday, September 9, the party stated it had presented the petition in the National Assembly, maintaining that it will be presented to the President once it is deliberated by the National Assembly.
According to the party, the petition expresses the conduct of the commissioners in the last general election as being a gross violation of the Constitution and a breach of their oath of office.
“Farmers Party has presented to the National Assembly a petition for the removal of 4 commissioners of IEBC following the attempt by the said commissioners to sabotage an election process as witnessed on August 15, 2022 at Bomas of Kenya.
“The 4 IEBC commissioners are Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya and Francis Wanderi. Once the petition is deliberated by the National Assembly, the petition will be presented to the President for appointment of a tribunal for the removal of the commissioners,” read the statement by the Farmers Party.
