With the August 9 General Elections around the corner, cabinet members among other government officials interested in running for elective positions have been resigning from the government as required by law.
The law requires that public officers seeking elective seats resign six months to a general election.
On Tuesday, February 3, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered civil servants eyeing elective seats to resign and vacate their offices before February 8.
"Non-exempted State officers and all public officers are required to hand-over all public assets under their charge and to prepare comprehensive hand-over notes to facilitate a smooth transition and hand-over," a notice issued by the Head of Public Service Joesph Kinyua read.

Below are government officials who have resigned to join politics.

2. Mining and Petroleum CS John Munyes - Resigned on Tuesday, February 8 and he will vie for the Turkana county gubernatorial seat under ODM ticket.

11. East African Community CAS Ken Obura - He is set to contest for Kisumu Governor's seat in the August General Election.
12. KBC Zinga Show host Bonnie Musambi - Resigned on Tuesday and is set to vie for Kitui Central Parliamentary seat in Kitui County.
