Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has issued a statement after a boat capsized at Jomo Kenyatta Beach, commonly known as Pirate’s Beach.

In the statement issued on Tuesday, December 27, Governor Abdulswamad note that the County Government of Mombasa was aware of the accident. 

"The County Government of Mombasa is aware of the tragedy that occurred yesterday at Pirates Beach in which a boat capsized resulting in the deaths of two people and hospitalization of one other," he stated.

Mombasa Red Cross Chairperson Mahmoud Noor said the family of twelve from Nairobi lost two of their relatives, a man, and a woman. One member is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Infants aged between 3 and 5 months, who were part of the family during the incident, are in stable condition.
