Malava Member of Parliament Moses Injendi on Friday made a U-turn on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum, stating that he does not support the push to amend the Constitution.
Explaining his recent meeting with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who are among the top BBI proponents, Injendi claimed that he was duped to attend the meeting, adding that he does not subscribe to the BBI ideology.
Injendi affirmed that he supports Deputy President William Ruto, and as such, his meeting with Odinga should be ignored.
“I don’t know what really happened. I only found myself standing with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. I am not for reggae and I sincerely apologize to my constituents over the move I took then. Am now back home.
“I want to tell Raila Odinga that I didn’t intend to meet him. It was Mr Oparanya who misled me. I refuse to be associated with issues to do with reggae,” he said while addressing a gathering in Malava, Kakamega County.

Following his meeting with Odinga and Oparanya, many people got the impression that he had decided to support the BBI document.
On his part, DP Ruto appeared to take a swipe at his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Odinga, telling them to provide Kenyans with copies of the BBI report.
According to Ruto, it is unfair for Kenyans to be told to prepare for a referendum, yet they have not read the content of the BBI report.
“Before telling Kenyans to support or reject the document, they should first be given copies of the report so that they can read and understand it before making their decisions. Why are Kenyans being told to prepare to vote yes or no on a document that they have not seen or read?” he posed.
