The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has released Sh8.6 billion for the Inua Jamii programme.
In a press statement on Thursday, January 5, Labour CS Florence Bore said that the funds will be distributed among 1,072,226 beneficiaries who are enrolled in the programme.
The CS said that each beneficiary will receive Sh8,000 for payment for July-August 2022 and September-October 2022.
"The funds have been credited to the accounts of the beneficiaries who will each receive Sh8,000 being payment for July-August 2022 and September-October 2022 payment cycles. Payment will begin on Monday, January 9, 2023," Bore stated.
Inua Jamii is a government cash transfer programme that supports the most vulnerable members of the society including the elderly, disabled and orphans, to cushion them from poverty and hunger.

The funds had not been distributed since President William Ruto assumed office, arousing fears that the programme could be abandoned.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour also announced that Sh11.2 million had been released for nutrition improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE).
NICHE is a complementary intervention that combines social protection, nutrition and child protection programming, and it is being implemented in Kitui, Kilifi, Marsabit, Turkana and West Pokot counties.
It targets Inua Jamii and Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP) beneficiaries' households with children under two years old and pregnant mothers.
"A household with one child under 24 months or a pregnant mother will receive a minimum of Sh500 per month whereas a household with more than one child under 24 months old and/ or more than one pregnant mother will receive a maximum of Sh1,000 per month," the Labour CS added.
