Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s spouse Dorcas Rigathi on Wednesday, January 18 held a meeting with the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Japhet Koome.
According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) after the meeting, the two leaders agreed to partner in mental health, rehabilitation, chaplaincy, and welfare of widows and orphans of police officers who have died in the line of duty.
“Today, Her Excellency the Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Gachagua visited NPS HQS where she was hosted by the Inspector General Mr. Japhet Koome. The two leaders discussed at length on areas of partnership between the Office of the Spouse of the Deputy President and NPS. The identified areas include mental health; rehabilitation, chaplaincy, and welfare for widows and orphans of Officers that have died in line of duty,” NPS tweeted.
Pastor Dorcas in a post on her Facebook account emphasized that she will work closely with the NPS while noting that police families face unique challenges due to the stressful nature of Police work.

The Second Lady also said that the clergy will help in conducting mass weddings for police officers who are unable to afford the ceremony cost.
“My office's chaplaincy and family values pillar wishes to see a dignified future for police officers in areas such as drug and substance abuse rehabilitation, counseling support, mentorship and training, and widow empowerment. The clergy will also help conduct mass marriages for those who are unable to meet the huge ceremony cost,” she said.
