Acting Nairobi Governor Benson Mutura gave Treasury the green light to release Ksh37.5 billion to the county government.
The directive given on Monday, December 21 will also see the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) receive Ksh27.1 billion which former governor Mike Sonko had refused to sign off on.
Mutura committed to resolving the NMS budget stalemate and ensure a smooth transition in 60 days.
Mutura was sworn in at 10:30 am on Monday at the County Assembly. The solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto NMS boss Major General Mohammed Badi and MP George Aladwa were in attendance.

Sonko had vowed that he will not bow to intimidation, impeachment threats and even jail threats, to release funds to an ‘illegal’ entity.
NMS, a national government agency under the Executive Office of the President, accused Mr Sonko of frustrating the implementation of the four services surrendered to the national government, by constantly placing hurdles in every step.
Just before his impeachment, the High Court had stopped the Treasury from releasing funds to the NMS over the legality of functions transferred to the entity and the manner in which the budget was passed.
The functions transferred to NMS include health services, transport, county public works, utilities and ancillary services and planning and development.
