Speaker Moses Wetangula presented the nomination on Wednesday, March 15 at the National Assembly chambers noting that President Ruto sought for approval of the nomination by the house.

President William Ruto has nominated Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s sister-in-law Margret Karungaru as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission.

Speaker Moses Wetangula presented the nomination on Wednesday, March 15 at the National Assembly chambers noting that President Ruto sought for approval of the nomination by the house.

“I wish to convey a message from the President for the nomination of a person for appointment as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission. In the message honorable members, his excellency the President conveys that in exercise conferred to him by article 252 b of the constitution and section 11 of the National Gender and Equality Commission act 2012 has read together in section 3 and 5 of the parliamentary approval act number 33 of 2011 he has nominated Dr, Margaret Karungaru for an appointment as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission. Wetangula announced.

He added, “The president now seeks approval of the nominee by this house. Honorable members standing order 45 provides that upon receipt of notification for appointment such a nomination shall stand committed to the relevant department of committee for consideration. ”

Karungaru is the wife to Gachagua’s late brother Nderitu Gachagua who served as Nyeri’s first county boss. 

Karungaru vied for the Nyeri County Women Represenative seat in the August 9, 2022 general election  but lost to UDA’s Rahab Mukami.
