The Idd-ul-Fitr festival is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadhan. The holiday celebrates the end of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-dusk fasting during the Ramadhan period.
Muslims believe that it was during the month of Ramadhan that the text of the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
They gather in mosques or open places and offer two units of prayer called "Rakat". The prayers are followed by a sermon whereby an Imam asks for peace mercy and forgiveness for everybody across the world.
