The National Transport and Safety Authority board has suspended its director General George Njao and four other Saccos following a series of accidents that have occurred in the country in the last 30 days.
NTSA Board Chair Aden Noor Ali said his suspension is for 30 days pending a review of his conduct in office when the country witnessed a rise in accident cases.
"We have given our director general 30 days leave so that we can investigate some of the information that we need to get," he said
At the same time, Noor announced the suspension of four Matatu saccos that were involved in the accidents in the last 30 days.

The Saccos include Taita Taveta Sacco whose bus was involved in an accident that led to the deaths of 10 people in Taita Taveta County.
Tahmeed Bus Sacco has also been suspended after one of its fleets was involved in an accident that killed four people along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.
Team Swat matatu sacco has also been suspended. One of its Nissan was involved in an accident in Naivasha that led to the death of 5 high school students.
Noor also announced that Kiogo Hallers Sacco Limited has also been suspended.
He announced that the board has taken more stringent actions to tame the accidents.
The new measure includes: any driver holding a driving license for public vehicles will be required to undergo fresh vetting after three years.
This will entail a driving test and a physical suitability test which includes an eye and hearing test by a qualified medical practitioner.
Noor also announced that NTSA will take immediate disciplinary action against any staff of the authority who will issue inspection certificates to any vehicle or driver without following the laid down procedure.
Also, operators or sacco having less than 30 vehicles have been given 30 days to meet the legal requirement failure of which will result in the revocation of license.
