Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sensationally claimed that his brother Nderitu Gachagua was killed by coffee cartels.
The DP in a media interview with Inooro TV on Sunday said the cartels poisoned his brother who suddenly fell sick after enjoying a period of good health.
Nderitu was elected the first Governor of Nyeri County. He suddenly fell sick and died on February 24, 2017.
“Our family believes and we know the late Nderitu Gachagua was poisoned by those people,” said Gachagua during an interview with Inooro TV.
“Since then, a very healthy person started becoming sickly and we believe these people harmed him."

Nderitu passed on at Royal Marsden Hospital in London. Initial reports then indicated that he had been undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer.
Gachagua made the revelations at a time when he is focused on fighting coffee cartels who he said have denied farmers the right to reap from their sweat.
On Friday and Saturday, Gachagua led a coffee conference in Meru County where they discussed how to ensure farmers get their dues fairly.
Gachagua said the war on coffee cartels is a difficult one that made them sideline the governors and take on them head-on.
“This war cannot be won by governors, this can only be won by DP and the president, these people; are dangerous and can even kill you,” he asserted.
“The President assigned me the task of leading these people because I have more resources including security since these are not good people”.
