Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, June 16 Presided over the closing ceremony of the Kenya Urban Forum (KUF) in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Speaking during the forum, which brought together government officials, the Council of Governors, the World Bank, UN-Habitat, Kenya Institute of Planners, and the National Land Commission, Gachagua stated that the government will welcome the key resolutions discussed in the forum saying they will inform the framework for suitable urbanization.
The Second in command also noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration will review and harmonize legal frameworks to streamline urbanization.
“For sustainable housing as envisioned by Agenda 2030 of the United Nations, the Ruto administration will review and harmonize legal frameworks to streamline urbanization,” he stated.

Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga announced that the national government will work with county governments and other stakeholders to review the sessional paper number 1 of 2016 on National Urban Development Policy.
“The National Government in collaboration with the County Governments, and other urban sector stakeholders shall review the Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2016 on the National Urban Development Policy to align to existing urbanization dynamics and realities,” he stated.
PS Hinga also stated that the national and county governments will expand cooperation and multilevel climate action to enhance inclusion of local-level contributions in new and updated nationally determined contributions.
Hinga further stated that the forum resolved that the National and County Governments to collaborate in the provision of adequate housing for all including the integration of urban social rental housing into the Affordable Housing Program.
