Chaos erupted at the Technical University of Mombasa Monday Mid-morning after students went on a rampage.
The chaos saw a fire breakout at the Students Centre where several businesses, including a fast-food restaurant, are domiciled.
Nairobi Leo has since established that the students were protesting a fee hike of up to Sh6,5000 in the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
"We can't manage the fee increment. Some of us had been charged Sh6,000 extra, others Sh3,000 and others Sh6,5000,” a student who spoke to the media said.

The students fingered the police for disrupting their peaceful march.
They said they were peaceful until the law enforcement officers interrupted them by lobbying tear gas canisters at them.
They denied being involved in the fire incident and called for relevant agencies to probe the incident.
The Mombasa Fire Brigade team was called to contain the fire incident.
TUM Vice-Chancellor Professor Laila Abubakar and the students’ leadership reportedly convened a crisis meeting Monday afternoon to discuss the matter.
Universities have been decrying the inability to run their operations due to less fees charged to students.
Some have been proposing a fee increment to be able to sustain the operations of the business.
These complaints saw President William Ruto form a task force that revised the funding model to enable universities to remain afloat.
