Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has dismissed the ongoing African Climate Summit 2023 after a helicopter was spotted hovering above the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where the summit is being held.
In a statement via Twitter on Monday, September 4, Ledama noted that the helicopters are responsible for carbon emittance.
The ODM Senator added that it is hypocrisy to talk about climate change while a helicopter was hovering above the ACS summit.
“Hypocrisy of the highest order! We are here talking about climate change and up above the main hall a Helicopter, which is responsible for a significant part of the carbon footprint in the world is hovering over,” Ledama stated.
The lawmaker earlier opined that the summit should have been held in the desert to align with the climate change agenda.

“A real climate change conference should be held in a desert like Burningman then these talks can stop being talks about nothing,” Ledama tweeted.

The African Climate Summit began on Monday morning and is scheduled to continue until Wednesday September 6.
Speaking during the opening of the summit President William Ruto said its time for Africa to be part of the solution to global warming, rather than a victim.
"For a very long time, we have looked at this as a problem. It is time we flipped and looked at it from the other side.
"There are opportunities, immense opportunities as well. And that is why we are not here to catalogue grievances and list problems, we are here to scrutinise ideas, assess perspectives, so that we can unlock solutions,” said Ruto.
